Bandai's Cardzillions!

"Unlike traditional trading cards, Cardzillion cards feature games, exciting information and fun filled facts for kids of all ages. Each trading card series consists of 42 Cards, including 6 ULTRA Cardzillion trading cards. The 6 ULTRA Cardzillion trading cards are considered more valuable and a challenge to collect. Many of these ultra Cardzillion cards can turn into stickers."¹

For a brief time (at least two years), Bandai America followed Bandai Japan's lead and turned it's child-based toy lines into card series. In addition to Power Rangers (7 differenet Series), Bandai also released series for Masked Rider, Sailor Moon (3 Series), Big Bad Beetleborgs, WMAC Masters, Dragonball, and Donkey Kong Country. They also branched out and teamed-up with Upper Deck to produce both Football and Major League Baseball cards.

"These trading cards are sold exclusively through coin operated machines currently sold only in Toys 'R' Us stores throughout the United States. Each card costs only 25 cents."¹

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Series 1!

By far the most rare of all the series, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Series 1 may not have even seen mass release. This series takes place in the early second season, featuring cards of the original 6 Power Rangers, the Thunderzords, and the debut of the White Ranger. A full checklist is yet to be found, but here's what we know:

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Series 2!

Taking place at rougly the same time as Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Series 1, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Series 2 focuses on the six Power teens themselves, with each Ranger getting a 7-card mini-series devoted to them. This series refers to itself as "the All-Star Series," which is odd because the All-Star Series takes place later in the show. The shipping boxes for this set refer to it correctly as Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Series 2. This set is the second most rare, seeing as how I've actually only found on person who owns/knows about it (well, me):

Released between Power Rangers Series 1 and Power Rangers Series 2, this set (much like Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Series 2) gives each Ranger a 7-card mini-series. It takes place during the second half of season two:

Power Rangers Zeo Series 1!

With new powers come new cards! Power Rangers Zeo Series 1 covers the beginnings of PRZ, up through the forming of the ZeoMegaBattlezord. These cards suffered from the same fate as the original two series, in that the backs of the cards were not made of a glossy material. Top that off with dark print, and you get extremely hard to read data. In addition, you get the early production plan of Adam as the Blue Ranger and Rocky as the Green Ranger:

Power Rangers Zeo Series 2 solves the errors and quality of the earlier Zeo cards, and was the second series to continue where the previous series left off:

Bandai's Auto Morphin Zeo Ranger Collection (ITEM #2669) from the fall of 1996 featured an exclusive card.
Bandai's Special Edition Auto Morphin Gold Team (ITEM #2676) featured a special edition card for the Green Ranger, marred with the error that the designer couldn't keep the Green and White Rangers straight.
Bandai's Auric, The Conqueror Zord (ITEM #2715) featured a special edition Gold Ranger card, with details about Cardzillion cards and machines on the back.

Also, during the second season of MMPR, Fox Kids ran a contest to win all the toys for that year. Runner-ups were awarded with a Card-holder (a cheaply put together one at that) that featured designs from Power Rangers Series 1. I've Still got to scan that one, along with The Cardzillion.
