Note the number "one" in osf1 and vms1. It is not a letter "L". IV. _SOME SUBPLOTS_ --Zack/Angela. This relationship got off on a rocky start when Angela wouldn't even acknowledge Zack's existence. Zack's persistence paid off when Angela finally agreed to go out with him. The date which ended on a sour note because Zack had to go off into battle. He nearly won her heart over again by showing how great he was with kids. But, what was supposed to be another romantic night at the movies turned out to be a field trip to a cartoon film festival with about fifteen rugrats. Zack tried to buy her love with a date at AG's fanciest restaurant and a pair of pearl earrings, but that was a flop as well. Finally, flowers and a song won her heart over. --Kim/Tommy. It was love at first sight when Kim saw Tommy at the Martial Arts Expo. She was crushed when he started to act coldly towards her. Little did she know it was because of Rita's spell. It wasn't until Tommy lost his powers and had to leave the team that the two of them finally revealed their feelings for each other. It's difficult to tell what the current status of their relationship is, although they did double date with Zack and Angela once. However, in the third season, their relationship has apparently progressed to a point where Kat gets awfully jealous (what is it with felines intent on stealing other women's men?). Kim also has a bit of competition in the form of Delphine, although I personally think Tommy's the kind of guy who would prefer to date within his own species. --Bulk/Skull. Featured in almost every episode, Bulk and Skull provide the majority of the comic relief in MMPR. They're always getting into trouble, trying to be as obnoxious as possible along the way. Not much can be said about the two without mentioning the word PADDING. :] Their mission for the Second Season is to find out the identity of the Power Rangers...a feat they actually achieved once. Luckily, the monster du jour just happened to be an amnesia monster, so Our Heroes' secret identities are safe (just as long as they stop doing stupid things like stand out in public sans helmets ala "The Great Bookala Escape".). At the start of the third season, Bulk and Skull gave up the quest to discover the Rangers' identities and took up a new hobby -- impersonating Steve Gutenberg. Yes, Our Ornery Heroes have decided to join the Junior Police Force. I feel safer already. You have no idea. --Trini/Rich. This plot may have been introduced as a red herring in order to throw people off the trail of the New Rangers' identities. These kids had an obvious attraction for each other, but it never got past the "loving look in the eyes as they say a quick hello to each other" stage. Once Trini was gone, so was Rich. Sad, really. He was kinda' cute. --Curtis. Curtis was another red herring intro'd as a possible replacement for the Black Ranger. Not much time was spent on his character development...basically, he's Zack's cousin, and he can play the trumpet. Oh yeah, and he can dance, too. Like Rich, he was gone when Zack left. --Billy/the entire female population of Angel Grove. My, aren't WE busy today. Marge was Billy's first on-screen girlfriend, even though she was around for only one show. Then the Second Season began, and my blue hunk's love life blossomed (sniff). First, he met Laura, who wasn't as nerdy as Marge was, but was still very intelligent. He then he met Tamara during Angel Grove's own peace conference (she represented Israel...btw, this shouldn't be confused with the World Peace Conference that Our Old Heroes were sent off to). They never had an on screen fling...but this is a family show. Who knows what goes on in Billy's garage... Anyway, a few episodes later, Laura asked Billy out to the Sadie Hawkins dance, proving her love (cringe) for him. Personally, I think Marge is probably best for him. At least she doesn't walk around in a stupid Angle Scout uniform singing campfire songs. Then, to top it all off, we were "blessed" with yet another Billy love interest...Violet (Special thanks to Lunette339@aol.com for pointing out Violet's real name to me. Guess I must've been doing some creative blocking. :]). V. _CHARACTER BIOGRAPHIES: WHO ARE THESE FOLKS, ANYWAY?_ Now that you know the main story, and a few of the back stories, lets find out more about the characters that make the world of Power Rangers what it is. These are little snippets of info that you probably never wanted to know, but I'm including them anyway. Why else would I call this FAQ "Almost Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Power Rangers But Were Too Afraid to Ask"? These mini-biographies can also be found in my all-new Biographies FAQ. VI. _WEAPONRY_ The Power Rangers are equipped with different kinds of weapons, and remembering what each weapon is used for can be quite a task. Hopefully, this nifty little guide will be helpful. Light/Blade Blaster -- This is a dagger (Blade Blaster) that can be transformed into a gun (Light Blaster) with a flick of the wrist. Their power can be combined to form the... Blade Blaster Pyramid -- Kim and Trini stand on the other Rangers' shoulders, and the Light/Blade Blasters are brought together to shoot a powerful beam. Then there are the... Power Weapons -- Each Ranger was given a weapon to use when the Blasters failed. These are the Power Sword (Jason/Rocky, although the MegaZord has a Power Sword as well), Power Bow (Kim), Power Lance (Billy), Power Daggers (Trini/Aisha), and Power Axe (Zack/Adam). Tommy's Dragon Dagger is also used as a weapon, though very rarely. Saba is often used as a saber, but he can also shoot beams out of his eyes. In one Season One episode ("Mighty Morphin' Mutants"), the Rangers were given "new and improved" Power Weapons, which looked amazingly like the old ones. The Power Weapons combine to form the... Power Blaster -- This has also been referred to as the Mega-Blaster. "Special Weapons" -- These were special guns used in only one episode and never seen again. That's probably why they were never given a name. I guess you could call them "ZyuRanger Guns" or something, since they had the word "Zyuranger" printed on the side. There were also miscellaneous, one-time weapons introduced during Season Two. These include: Power Cannon -- Okay, it was used a couple of times. Details. The six Rangers line up in pairs and the cannon magically appears in between them. However, in "Story Book Rangers, we discover that the cannon can also be invoked by less than the full team. Nothing fancy. Mirror Shield -- Billy designed a mirror shield to use against the Octophantom in "The Power Stealer". Billy created several other weapons that have been used against various monsters, including his Mega-heater and Signal Blocker. Sword of Power -- This is a sword that is conjured up by the Rangers when they need a little extra fire-power (or when the writers need a convenient plot device). Its origins were never explained, and it only appeared in one episode ("The Green Dream") Killer Rhythm Gymnastics Ribbon -- No, this is not the real name of the weapon. I only refer to this as the KRGR because it was never given a proper name during the episode it was featured in -- "Bloom of Doom". This should also not be confused with the Raptor Ribbon/Pterydactyl Thunder Whip that was featured in the movie. In the movie, a few new gadgets are introduced, with no mention of where the Rangers got them. We also learn that some of the helmets have neat little gizmos built into them (again, where they got these is never explained). These include: --Stega Stinger. This is something that Billy carries that works much like the gun Batman uses to swing through Gotham city. --Pterodactyl Thunder Whip. This is an item Kimberly possesses which is, essentially...well, a whip. It was also referred to as "The Raptor Ribbon" in the t.v. special "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie...Secrets Revealed" (airdate: 06/18/94 on FOX). --Red Ranger Helmet Power Scope. The Red Ranger Helmet's eyes can go into infrared mode, to help the Rangers find Oozelets in the middle of night. --Yellow Ranger Helmet Power Beam. Basically, these are headlights for the Yellow Ranger. ========== THE ZORDS Any explanation of Zords and Zord combinations can be quite confusing to the MMPR novice. Don't worry -- it's quite confusing to us pros as well. If you'll indulge me for a moment (well, a big moment, considering how long this section is), I'll try to explain the Zords. Don't worry... there isn't a pop quiz. If you can make it through this and still keep some semblance of sanity, then you deserve a warm, squishy hug. THE FIRST SEASON ZORDS --The original five Zords first come together to form the Battle Tank. It's difficult to locate the Pterodactyl in this mode, but if you look very carefully, you might be able to locate the Pterodactyl briefly atop the Tyrannosaurus' head as the Tank scurries into battle. --From that they can switch to Megazord mode. This involves a change from tank to robot form. The Megazord has the ability to call on the Power Sword. It also uses the Pterodactyl as a chest plate, and sometimes (actually, only once), the Mastodon's head is used as a shield. --According to Pam Green (pkgreen@u.washington.edu): There are two combinations of Dragonzord and the various Dinozords. According to the instructions in the Bandai Dragonzord toy, Dragonzord + Megazord (including T-Rex) = Megadragonzord! The Dragonzord loses its tail and chestplate and unfolds over Megazord, as you can see on the opening sequence of some shows. On the other hand, Dragonzord + Mastodon + Triceratops + Sabertooth Tiger = The Ultimate Battle System Fighting Mode! This guy can carry the Power Drill (made out of Dragonzord's tail and chest plate). And note that since T-Rex isn't included in this configuration, they can fight alongside each other. Pam Green is our resident Toy Guru...she knows everything there is to know about what's available, and how to get it. She also maintains an extremely informative Toy File that lists all of Bandai's official products, tips on how to shop for MMPR stuff, and also how to put that darn Ultrazord together without requiring some form of therapy afterwards. This file is located on the MMPR Web Site, located at http://ic.www.media.mit.edu/Personal/manny/power. --Finally, Titanus can be called in to aid in the battle. It can fight alone, without a driver if necessary. However, it often combines with the various Megazord combinations to form Ultrazord (aka, one awfully confusing version of mecha Twister). ---------- THE SECOND SEASON ZORDS Special thanks go to Ben Ragunton for cleaning up the Season Two configuration information. First, it should be explained that for some strange reason, someone thought it necessary to keep some remnants of the original Zord footage. Not only will it confuse nearly everyone out there, but it'll pad the show like you wouldn't believe. So, instead of having the Red Dragon Thunderzord, there's the Tyrannosaurus Red Dragon Thunderzord. Poor Karan and Thuy -- they're stuck with having to say the words "Sabretooth Tiger Griffin ThunderZord" in less than 5 seconds. Soooo... --We start out with the individual Zords. These are as follows: Tyrannosaurus Red Dragon Thunderzord (Red) Mastodon Lion Thunderzord (Black) Triceratops Unicorn Thunderzord (Blue) Sabretooth Tiger Griffin Thunderzord (Yellow) Pterodactyl Firebird Thunderzord (Pink) Tigerzord (White) For the purposes of making this section somewhat of an easier read, and in order to save the author's poor fingers, the Thunderzords will be referred to as the Red Thunderzord, the Black Thunderzord, etc... --Two of the Zords, the Red Thunderzord and the TigerZord, can transform into robot Warrior Mode. These two often fight side-by-side. The Red Thunderzord has a Power Staff that it uses as either a weapon or a propeller (so that it can fly when combined with other Zords). The Warrior Mode version of this Zord can also ride on the Tiger Mode version of the Tigerzord. --Meanwhile, the other four Zords can combine to form the Thunderzord Assault Team (the name of this combination was provided by csmith@cps203.cps.smich.edu). Both the Tigerzord and the Red Thunderzord (when they are in Warrior Mode) can ride on this sled, but not at the same time. --If that doesn't work, they can all combine together to form one of two different configurations. The Pink, Yellow, Blue, and Black Thunderzords can combine with the Red Thunderzord (in Warrior mode) to form Thunder MegaZord. The Tigerzord does not join in this combination -- instead, it fights alongside the Thunder Megazord. The Thunder Megazord has a Power Sword (much like the first season's Power Sword) that it uses to slice and dice its way through most enemies. --In later episodes, the Pink, Yellow, Blue, and Black Thunderzords combine with the Tigerzord in Warrior Mode to form the MegaTigerzord. The Red Thunderzord does not join in this combination, fighting alongside the MegaTigerzord instead. In this combination, the Tigerzord's mouth becomes a cannon. The Pink Thunderzord can be used as a boomerang that is shot from the Tigerzord's arm. --To make things even more complicated, there's Tor, the Shuttlezord. Tor also morphs into Warrior Mode, though that happens rarely. The Tigerzord and the Red Thunderzord, when they are in Warrior Mode, can either ride on top of Tor, or they can enter its shell and ride inside. --Finally, so no one feels left out, there's the ThunderUltrazord, which is essentially everyone combined in yet another strange mecha version of Twister. Tigerzord in Tiger Mode enters Tor's shell and drives the Shuttlezord. The Pink, Blue, Yellow, and Black Thunderzords combine into the previously mentioned "sled" and connect to the top of Tor's shell. Red Thunderzord in Warrior Mode rides on top of the sled. It can also use its Power Staff as a propeller so that the ThunderUltraZord can fly. Confused? So is everyone else. ---------- THE MOVIE ZORDS The combinations for the movie Zords were kept simple (well, it's only a one and a half hour movie), so if you can understand the Season Two combinations, 1) You're a genius, 2) You'll easily understand these: First there are the Individual Zords, some of which have special powers of their own: --Ninja Frog Zord (Black). Has a tongue that can be used as a whip. The tongue can deliver an electrical charge to whatever it touches. And at this point, the author is *really* forcing herself to excercise some restraint... --Ninja Wolf Zord (Blue). Has an incredibly strong bite with which to hold on to...well, the tail of scorpion shaped Ectomorphicons (should the need arise, not that it ever does). --Ninja Ape Zord (Red). Can climb buildings, much like King Kong. --Ninja Crane Zord (Pink). Can fly. Haven't seen it do anything else that's special. --Ninja Bear Zord (Yellow). Haven't seen it do anything special yet. Then again, Aisha/Yellow Ranger does have control over the secret weapon when the Zords are together as one. --Ninja Falcon Zord (White). Can bring its wings forward and its tail down to resemble a flying gun. The wings also house rockets. Together, they can create two combinations: --Ninja Megazord. This is the Ape (right arm), Crane (head), Bear (torso), Frog (legs), and Wolf (left arm) Zords all together. This combination also has a Power Sword of its own, much like its predecessors, but it is destroyed by Ooze. --Ninja Falcon Megazord. This is the Ninja Megazord plus the Falcon Zord. The Falcon Zord provides the combination with wings with which the whole thing can fly. ---------- THE THIRD SEASON ZORDS Well, if you survived the descriptions of the last three Weapons configurations, you're on your way to becoming a Rhode's Scholar. Yes, it's time for one more set of Zords and weapons, but don't worry folks, I'll be gentle this time around. In "Ninja Quest", Ninjor bestowed upon Our Heroes all new powers of the Ninjetti. With these, they could transform into Ninjetti at a moment's notice and fight whatever normal-sized foes were in their way (it also made it convenient for the actors. With their faces covered, the Ranger actors no longer have to do any stunts of their own.). It also looks as if the teens do not need their morphers to transform into Ninjetti. However, said morphers are still necessary to transform into Rangers. Anyway, along with increased martial arts skills, the Ninjetti were blessed with special powers of the Ninja. Joe Rovang has compiled a complete list of Ranger powers. It is currently located on Manny's MIT MMPR site, located at http://ic.www.media.mit.edu/Personal/manny/power. The NinjaZords (the Zords the Rangers start out with) are the same as was described in the Movie section. However, the powers these individual zords have varies slightly. These powers include, but are not limited to, the following: Ninja Frog Zord -- Has a massive flame thrower. It's also capable of sending out mini-froglets from its mouth. These froglets attach themselves to an enemy and run a shocking electrical current through their foe's body. Still doesn't beat the electric tongue, though. Ninja Crane Zord -- Shoots lasers from its wings, much like its movie counterpart. Ninja Falcon Zord -- Again, similar to its movie counterpart. Ninja Ape Zord -- Equipped with two swords that can be joined at the hilt and turned into a quarter staff. Ninja Wolf Zord -- Has the ability to move lightning-quick. Also has lasers that shoot out of its eyes. Ninja Wolf Zord -- Also has eye beam lasers. Now, let's go into combinations. --The six Ninjazords combine to form the Ninja Megazord. This has a power punch that is usually enough to take out most enemies. --The Ninja Falconzord can also join forces with the Ninja Megazord to form the Ninja Mega Falconzord. With this combination, the Ninja Mega Falconzord is capable of flight. --Finally, if that's not enough, Titanus can be called in to aid in the battle. Yup, it's the same Titanus from the first season (where has he been all this time?), even though this particular carrier zord never made an appearance in Kakurangers. This combination is known as the Ninja Ultrazord. The Shogunzord combinations are pretty straightforward as well (although it's too early in the season to say whether or not what we've seen so far is all we're going to see). Basically, the five individual Shogunzords (Red, Black, White, Blue, and Yellow) come together to form the Shogun Megazord. The Shogun Megazord is capable of sending out a flurry of sparks to bombard the enemy. It also utilizes a flaming sword when necessary. The Shogun Megazord can also combine with Titanus to form the Shogun Ultrazord. The Aquitian Rangers have their own Battle Borgs, which they bring with them from Aquitar. The design of the Battle Borgs is very much like the Shogun Zords, however, the Battle Borgs are much less...angular (is that even a word?) looking than the Shogun Zords. The colors correspond to the Aquitian Rangers' colors. The Aquitians, unlike the Rangers, control their Battle Borgs via telepathy. However, they are also capable of physically merging with the Shogunzords to control them from within. The Borgs are capable of several different types of attacks, including launching the Red Battle Borg from a base made by the Blue and White Battle Borgs. And that's it for the Third Season weapons, zords, and borgs. See, I told you it wasn't going to be as bad! For those who are interested, Kryptopup@aol.com has compiled a list of Kakuranger Zords and their Power Rangers counterparts. POWER RANGERS KAKURANGERS ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~ SHOGUNZORDS Jusho (Beast Generals) Red SZ Red Saruda (Saru = Monkey) Black SZ Black Gamma (Gama = Toad) Blue SZ Blue Rogan (Ro = Wolf) Yellow SZ Yellow Kumaad (Kuma = Bear) Pink SZ White Kaaku (Kaku = Swan) Shogun Megazord Muteki Shogun (Invincible Shogun) NINJA BOTS Jusho Fighters Red NB Battle Saruda Black NB Battle Gamma Blue NB Battle Rogan Yellow NB Battle Kumaad Pink NB Battle Kaaku NINJAZORDS Choninju (Super Ninja Beasts) Red NZ God Saruda Black NZ God Gamma Blue NZ God Rogan Yellow NZ God Kumaad Pink NZ God Kaaku Ninja Megazord Kakure Daishogun (Hidden High General) Falconzord Tsubasamaru (Tsubasa = Wings) Shogun MegaFalconzord Super Muteki Shogun Ninja MegaFalconzord Super Kakure Daishogun ---------- THE FOURTH SEASON ZORDS -- POWER RANGERS ZEO Yup, the third season isn't quite over yet, and I'm already talking about the fourth (does that qualify me as a glutton for punishment?). eschmidt@scudc.scu.edu has been monitoring the current sentai series in Japan (titled "OhRanger), and he was kind enough to provide a list of the Zord configurations for that show. Keep in mind that all of this is speculative. We'll know what really happens when it happens, I suppose. But, if Saban follows tradition, this is what we might see: Red -- Red Falcon Blue -- Blue Sphinx Black -- Giant Pyramid (the other machines ride atop this one) Also has a helmet and gold shield that looks differnt from the other ones. Pink -- Pink driving machine** Yellow -- Yellow driving machine** **Eric has described the Pink and Yellow driving machines as robot feet on wheels. mcastill@ss.ca.gov has also relayed to me that there will also be a Green Ranger in Power Rangers Zeo. The Green Ranger will pilot a Bull Zord. For the most up-to-date information on all things Zeo related, visit Zyuray's Power Rangers Zeo site at: http://www.users.nyc.pipeline.com/~zyuray/prz.htm or Matt's Power Rangers Zeo site, located at: http://www.inforamp.net/~mpitt/zeo.htm VII. _WHO'S RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL THIS?_ The Cast: Tommy/Green Ranger/Season Two and Three White Ranger: Jason Frank (billed as Jason David Frank starting with episode 201) Jason/Season One Red Ranger: Austin St. John Kimberly/Seasons One, Two, and half of Three Pink Ranger: Amy Jo Johnson Zack/Season One Black Ranger: Walter Jones Trini/Season One Yellow Ranger: Thuy Trang Billy/Blue Ranger: David Yost Aisha/Season Two Yellow Ranger: Karen Ashley (billed as Karan Ashley sometime around episode 240) Adam/Season Two Black Ranger: John Bosch (billed as John Yong Bosch sometime around episode 240, also seen as Johnny Yong Bosch) Rocky/Season Two Red Ranger: Stephen Cardenas (billed as Steve Cardenas sometime around episode 240) Kat/Season Three Pink Ranger: Catherine Sutherland Baby Tommy: Michael R. Although she was billed in every episode from 201 to 239, she is in fact the original actress who portrayed Bandra (Rita) in the original ZyuRangers series. Interestingly enough, although Soga didn't get her proper credit until the Second Season, she was only in four Season 2 episodes -- "Mutiny pts. 1-3", and "When is a Ranger Not a Ranger". She was replaced in episode 240 by Carla Perez. In the Movie, the part of Rita Repulsa was portrayed by Julia Cortez. Lt.
