4.0 Story Progression and General Plots

Unlike most children's action-genre animated programs (or live action series) that typically are one to two season running shows that stay in limbo, Power Rangers has become something of a soap-opera in the regard that certain episodes update how the routine of the story is carried out. For example, if you look at "Day of the Dumpster" by itself then go to see 20th Century Fox's "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie", you would be more over confused. For example, questions such as: Who is Rocky. Adam and Aisha and Tommy, would arise. And where did White Ranger come from? All this and more is covered in the following sub-sections.

4.1 Day of the Dumpster

Rita is released from her dumpster and begins her evil revenge on the galaxy starting with earth (read, Angel Grove). Zordon commands Alpha 5 to bring five ordinary teenagers to the command center to become the Power Rangers and take on the skill of the ancient morphing masters to combat Rita's evil.

4.2 High Five

Teleportation/Communicator wrist-watches are invented by Billy.

4.3 Teamwork

The Power Weapons are introduced: Together, they form the Power Blaster.

4.4 Big Sisters

Billy presents the R.A.D.B.U.G., Remote Activated DrivingZord for Basic Ultra Geomorphology. This is a flying volkswagon beetle.

4.5 Green With Evil [Mini Series]

Part 1: "Out of Control"
Introduced to the cast in a Martial Arts Expo is Tommy, whose karate skills rival those of Jason's. In the competition, they draw a tie with no winners. Rita discovers this and decides to make him her Power Ranger so she will have a Ranger of her own to combat their own kind. After a putty fight with Tommy to test his skills, he is brought to Rita's Palace and is placed under a spell in which he takes on the Green Ranger Power Coin. He succeeds in his first mission of destroying the command center and knocking Zordon off line and off to another dimension.

Part 2: "Jason's Battle"
Rita orders Finster to re-produce the Sword of Darkness; Tommy under goes another putty fight to test him once again if he is worth it. The power of the Sword of Darkness is the ability to keep Tommy under her spell forever. However, the spell will be broken if the sword is destroyed. Meanwhile, Jason is brought to Rita's Dark Dimension Dungeon and is faced with Goldar.

Part 3: "The Rescue"
Rita releases Scorpina (``Rami'' in "ZyuRanger", pronounced: Lami) from suspended animation to battle the rangers. She remains a permanent cast member till the end of season one.

Part 4: "The Eclipsing Megazord"
After an impressive battle, the Megazords are destroyed and Rita finally won a battle for the first time of her career. Meanwhile, the Rangers discover Evil Green Ranger is Tommy.

Part 5: "Breaking the Spell"
To finish her plan, Rita resurrects the DragonZord in which Tommy uses against the defenseless Rangers as well as the entire city. Alpha is successful in bringing Zordon back (as per Tommy's damaging the Command Center in part one, shooting Zordon to another dimension). The Zords return and defeat the DragonZord in combat. Jason and Tommy go down to battle for the last time as Tommy's defeated, Jason destroys the Sword of Darkness releasing Tommy from his spell. However, since Tommy still possesses a power coin, he joins the Power Team as the good sixth ranger. With DragonZord on the force, Mastodon, Triceritops and Sabertooth Tiger can combine with DragonZord to become the MegaDragonZord. Additionally, the DragonZord in combination with the MegaZord becomes the UltraZord.

4.6 Life's a Masquerade

Rita has Finster create the super clay in which she wants Finster to use to produce the much stronger Super Putties to be used in ``Gung Ho!''

4.7 Gung Ho!

So that Tommy and Jason will learn to ``Gung Ho'' (Chinese for work together), Zordon sends them on a mission to find special weapons to defeat the virtually indestructable Super Putties who attacked the other rangers badly. However, they encounter Titanus, the Carrier Zord. Titanus later becomes the Rangers' ally when they need to form the UltraMegaZord. Titanus disappears after the first season with no explanation.

4.9 The Green Candle

Because Tommy's powers were once Rita's, she uses magic wax to burn a green candle connected to his powers which he can only keep if he works for Rita again. Billy discovers a way to return to the Dark Dimension to retrieve the candle but Jason is called away to fight Cyclops with the other Rangers. In part two, Tommy loses his powers, however, Tommy gives them to Jason just in time so Rita will not have the Green Power to use for evil.

Tommy reveals his feelings for Kimberly for the first time with a Kiss.

4.10 Return of an Old Friend

Rita's second most diabolical plan ever hatched results in all of Angel Grove's parents abducted and Goldar presents the rangers with an ultimatum they couldn't refuse. Previously before his blackmail, Rita forced an impromptu evil spell upon Billy, who was late for the Parents' Day party at the Youth Center. He becomes much more cranky, breaks into the command center and steals the Dragon Dagger which he gives to Goldar. He takes it and uses it to call upon the DragonZord to destroy the city. Therefore, the rangers must choose whether they'll give up their powers to save their parents and the city or not. However, the gang are tricked when Goldar keeps their power coins and their parents. They must bring back their old friend, Tommy, to take on his old powers. With the assistance of Zordon's powers, Tommy is Green Ranger again and in part two successfully retrieves their powers and the Dragon Dagger which Goldar used to force the rangers into choosing and their parents.

The high voltage field surrounding the coins and Dagger revived his powers to full power but only temporarily. The six-part Power Team exists once more.

End of Season One

4.11 The Mutiny

Lord Zedd, Rita's unmentioned boss, discovers Rita has failed in destroying the Power Rangers and conquering Earth, so he shrinks her and puts her in her much smaller dumpster and jettisons her into space and proceeds to release his debut monster, PirhantisHead, whose primary function is to obstruct machinery. In part one, Lord Zedd as PirhantisHead freeze all of the zords and puts a spell over Tyrannosaurus and DragonZord to terrorize Angel Grove and turn on the rangers. In part two, the rangers are informed of more powerful Zords brought in to defeat Zedd's evil schemes, but they must retrieve the power of their old Zords to fuel the new ones. Billy, along with the help of Trini attempt to invent a Signal Blocker in Billy's garage to take back their Zords and they succeed. Lord Zedd becomes so mad that he tries to get the upper hand by destroying their old zords again. Just as they are being destroyed, Alpha Five resurrect them and transforms them into the following ThunderZords:

Together, forming the MegaThunderZord. Because Tommy's Green Ranger powers were only temporary, he could not support a ThunderZord (furthermore, there wasn't a zord for Green Ranger to own in the "Dairanger" footage used for their zords). They successfully destroy PirhantisHead and take on new Zords.

4.12 The Green Dream

The Sword of Power is introduced (as if always had previously existed).

4.13 The Power Stealer

Billy invents the Mirror/Shield.

4.14 The Beetle Invasion

Richie moves into Angel Grove and becomes Trini's love interest.

4.15 Green No More

Curtis is introduced to the cast as Zack's cousin. Tommy's remaining temporary powers are finally exhausted in his final battle to destroy Zedd's monster, Turban Shell.

4.16 White Light

Billy investigates when Zordon and Alpha desert the command center and leave the rangers no explanation. Billy eventually is taken to an underground lab of Zordon and Alpha's where he discovers Zordon and Alpha creating a brand new Power Ranger. In Part Two, he informs his friends of the latest development, as they are skeptical thinking that they'll be united with an unknown, new Power Ranger. Zordon is pleased to reveal that Tommy has become the new White Ranger. As White Ranger, he commands TigerZord with Sabba, the talking Saber as his partner and now owns indestructable powers. In combination with the Lion, Firebird, Unicorn and Griffin, they form the MegaTigerThunderZord. Additionally, White Ranger is the new leader of the Power Rangers.

4.17 The Ninja Encounter

Three new teenagers from Stone Canyon: Rocky, Adam and Aisha, moved in to Angel Grove and transferred to Grove's high school. After their well demonstrated talents at a Ninja Competition, Zedd (who originally wanted to choose the losing team because of their bad attitude) recreates the old idea to create Dark Rangers by having Goldar abduct them. Through a botched rescue mission, the rangers destroy Terror Blossom, rescue the teenagers and in the process, Kimberly uncovers Billy's identity to the three teens they later learn have a background and history of being absolutely harmless. After they are sworn in by Zordon to uphold the sacred secret of the Power Rangers, they become their friends.

The replacement for old jetting has been replaced with the new form of jetting (which basically includes White Ranger, not seen in the old footage).

4.18 The Power Transfer

Serpentara

Jason, Zack and Trini are selected to represent America in the World Teen Summit in Geneva, Switzertland, therefore requiring the need for three new team members. Zedd thinks he has the upper hand by only having to deal with three Power Rangers, thus, he brings out his own war machine Goldar engineers known as Serpentara, which often loses power before Zedd is about to win a battle. At any rate, as the rangers go to a distant planet to find the Sword of Light, Lord Zedd almost destroys the deserted planet with them on it. However, to continue his evil reign over earth, he sends down Baboo and Squatt to unleash the sleep machine on the city. The town's only hope is teleported to the command center; Rocky, Adam and Aisha. There, they are commanded to deactivate the machine. They succeed and so do the rangers as the all return to the command center.

Zordon, White Ranger and the Sword of Light transfer all of Red, Black and Yellow Ranger's Morphing Powers to Rocky, Adam and Aisha (in that order) to become our new Power Rangers.

Tor, the ShuttleZord is introduced.

4.19 Mirror of Regret

Alpha invents the Power Cannon (which evidently is used more often than the Power Blaster, as the White Ranger does not have a Power Weapon).

4.20 The Wedding

Rita's recurring dumpster crashes upon the surface of the moon, with her own remaining powers, just as both the Rangers are on vacation in Australia and Lord Zedd must recharge his evil powers, as he needs to every century. Rita uses Finster's misgiving feelings about never being used to create monsters to make her life-sized again.

Meanwhile, Zedd's "big sleep" causes Zordon and Alpha to let their guards down and Alpha decides goes for a walk; this opportunity is made use of when Rita has Finster go down with a gang of putties to beat up Alpha and slip him a computer virus on a CD-ROM that causes him to disrespect Zordon and take the Rangers to a theater in another dimension where their powers are neutralized. Rita slips a potion in Zedd's recharge chemicals which put a spell over Zedd so that he will fall in what we know as love with her so she can eventually destroy the Power Rangers and over-throw Zedd and rule once again.

The rangers are able to defeat the army of grown monsters and restores Alpha back to normal health, however; now they must contend with both Rita and Zedd working together to try and rule the universe.

4.21 Ninja Quest

Due to Rita's younger brother, Rito, moving in, the ThunderZords were graphically dismembered during a battle between Rito, Fighting Flea, Octophantom, Stag Beetle and the Lizzinator. The Rangers traveled to a distant planet where they ran into Rito's newly hatched Tenga Warriors (flying mutants that function like Putties). Later the rangers obtained new Ninja powers from Ninjor. Along with the new powers came the new Zords. See section 6.4 for the latest Zord combo scheme.

4.22 A Brush with Destiny

Kimberly's mother re-married again and this time is it to someone who lives in France who was brave enough to visit Angel Grove. So, accordingly, once he returns, so will her mother and Kimberly is upset she wlil be leaving her friends (namely leaving the Power Team as well).

Aisha decides to get her parents to have Kimberly live with her family until the end of the school semester.

  • 4.23 A Ranger Catastrophe A foreign exchange student from Austrailia moves into Angel Grove but Rita decides to make her do her evil bidding and Katherine becomes an evil doer. Kat has Tommy is trapped in a car (which Rita created out of a Dumpster) and traps him in a dimention with Goldar from which the other Rangers must retreave him. Not knowing all the while that Kat (which disguises herself as a cat, Aisha named PC, for Park Cat) had been the reason behind this.

  • 4.24 Changing of the Zords Kat is at it again when she steals Kimberly's power coin to get inside of the White Falcon Zord allowing Lord Zedd to steal it. Meanwhile, Finster, Baboo and Squatt are sent down to Earth to find the dormant Shogun Zords which Rita plans to make the Rangers use to destroy their own city if they do not wish to see Ninjor (also captured) harmed. However, Billy finds a way to use the Shogun Zords for good.

Meanwhile, Kimberly becomes weaker as she begins to lose her Pink Ranger Powers.

  • 4.25 A Different Shade of Pink Kimberly is contacted (in an episode prior to this one) by a Gymnastics Coach to be in the Pan American Gym Competition in Florida and begins practicing. Meanwhile, the other Rangers must face two battles with Vampirous, Paint Monster, Goldar and Cheeto with a mob of Tengas. The overwhelming battle forces Kimberly into action. Meanwhile, Kat finally breaks free of Rita's spell but it is too late for when Kimberly returns to her practise, she is too week on the high-beam and lands in the hospital where Kimberly learns of Kat's true identity and all that had happened.

Lord Zedd and Rita learn that Kat turned traitor and made plans to abduct her and send both Ninjor and Kat into the sea of despair. Tommy gets an idea to trick Rita and her gang into giving up Ninjor for exchange for Kat but Billy instantly produces (out of thin air) a device to encase Kat before they can abduct her. However, the plan fails once they realize Ninjor is not in the container they brought. During the fight, two Tenga's smash the device releasing Kat as they abduct her.

Kat outsmarts Rito and gets ahold of the Pink Ranger Power Coin again and Alpha is then able to teleport her away. Because the coin was in the hands of good again, Kimberly's powers were restored to full power and the rangers were able to go back into action. Once the battle is over, Kimberly chose Kat to be the new Pink Ranger as Kimberly is informed she is invited to the Gymnastics competition in Florida afterall.

Editor's Note: This episode is a tear-jerker if you've been following these episodes described within this section. There is also one of Kimberly's best gymnastics routines in both Part One and Part Three which is, consequently, Amy Jo Johnson's last episode.

  • 4.26 Master Vile and the Metallic Armor. Zordon presents a new power to the Ranger's super-suits. The Metallic Armor, which enhances the Ranger's powers 100-fold and provides incredible protection.
