6.0 Explanation to terminology used on Power Rangers
To those who might have seen any episode of "Power Rangers" except
for all those listed in section 4.0, they are probably
everything from completely unaware of what is being said on the program to only
having it almost right. Here, the following text will go into great detail
describing everything mentioned in Power Rangers to date.
6.1 The Command Center
This is a building located in the desert of Angel Grove where the weapons,
communications, powers and costumes of the Power Rangers are stored. Here,
Zordon communicates with our dimension through the special computers and
connections making his presence possible. Alpha 5 is the caretaker of the
command center. No one can get inside of the command center unless they have a
power coin and they own the power, or, they are deliberately teleported inside
by Alpha 5.
The Command Center consists of NASA Headquarters-style computer consoles with
dials, buttons and switches, a viewing globe able to display anything which is
usually used to better illustrate the evil plans of Rita or Zedd to the Power
Rangers and a tube which contains Zordon's energy.
Things not seen in the area of the command center regularly or at all are the
encased suits and power weapons. The morphing grid functions through them, the
morphers and is what gives Alpha 5 life. This omnipresent energy exists
through all command centers throughout the universe and provide life for their
Zords that originate from another dimension. Also, it alerts the Command
Center's alarm system.
6.2 BladeBlasters
On the Power Rangers' super-suits are belts that have a power coin and a
holster which holds their BladeBlasters. These are red weapons that can be
used either as a short sword or be converted into a blaster. This weapon is
rarely used and the least often used in blaster mode (at least in
"ZyuRanger"). The ``Tower Formation'' maneuver is when Pink and
Yellow Ranger backflip on top of Red, Black and Blue Ranger's shoulders and
point the closed ends of their bladeblaster's together. This will cause a
potent energy force that causes a fierce destructive result.
6.3 Power Weapons
In the likely even the rangers are unable to fight the monster of the day with
mere hand-to-hand combat or even their bladeblasters, or they simply need a
stall, they may draw upon their power weapons (introduced in
"Teamwork"). Zordon distributed them to the rangers as follows:
- Zack: Power Axe/AxeBlaster, lightning quick and hard as diamond.
- Billy: Power Lance, a weapon of great power and range.
- Kimberly: Power Bow, accurate and strong.
- Trini: Power Daggers, feather light and true as arrows.
- Jason: Power Sword, key to all weapons' powers.
The AxeBlaster forms the central cannon, the Power Bow is the wing support, the
Power Lance and Power Daggers are two more pairs of cannons and the Power Sword
activates it, hold it all together and takes it out of the air. Traditionally,
the Power Blaster is able to destroy any monster that is normal sized, or will
simply down them for a while.
Power Blaster Toy
With the introduction of Green Ranger, a sixth power weapon (that does not
combine with the others) is used for three purposes. It is used as a flute to
page the DragonZord, it can be used as a combat weapon or it can be used to
empower the DragonShield (the golden vest Green Ranger wears).
Sabba, White Ranger's Saber, is a talking short-sword that has eye-lasers and
the special ability to control the TigerZord.
In the inevitable event that a monster is grown too large for the Rangers to
engage in hand-to-hand combat with, the Rangers can call upon the individual
power of their zords. A Zord is a low-level intelligence fighting machine with
a control cockpit and its own special weapons and it usually resembles some
kind of animal or carnivorous beast.
In the first season the arrangement of zords were as follows:
-
Black Ranger: Mastodon Dino-Zord -- Can snow-freeze a monster
-
Pink Ranger: Pterodactyl Dino-Zord -- Can fire thunderbolts
-
Blue Ranger: Triceritops Dino-Zord -- Double-Barrel Laser Cannons
-
Yellow Ranger: Sabertooth-Tiger Dino-Zord -- High Potency Heat Ray
-
Red Ranger: Tyrannosaurus Dino-Zord -- Force Beams, Tail-Whip and Eye Lasers
The transformation of these dinosaur-resembling zords are as follows:
- Sabertooth-Tiger's legs would fold into its stomach and its tail would
come up and close into its back.
- Triceritops' tail would fold backwards into its back.
- Tyrannosaurus would connect to the backs of these zords.
- Mastodon would separate with its body becoming the back and cannons. The
head would re-attach itself to the front.
- Pterodactyl would attach itself to the back of the entire zord in the
back.
The zords are now formed as one zord: the MegaZord in tank mode complete with
cannons and eye ``crystal-power'' lasers. When things become more serious and
they require hand-to-hand combat, the MegaZord tank would stop. The cannons
would convert into fists and the Mastodon head and Pterodactyl would detach.
The MegaZord stands up as the heads of the Triceritops and Sabertooth-Tiger
become the feet. The Tyrannosaurus head would fold down into its chest as the
Pterodactyl flies down and attaches itself to the MegaZord as its chest plate.
The Mastodon head served as a shield of the Megazord twice during season one.
Once in "Green with Evil," Part II and was unsuccessfully used in
"Fowl Play." The MegaZord's ultimate weapon is the Power Sword.
In ZYURANGER, the name of the MegaZord was Daizyujin, which had a mind of its
own.
When Green Ranger joined the Power Rangers, his DragonZord also joined the
combination. DragonZord can fuse itself with the zords in either one of two
ways.
The DragonZord can jump into and stay in mid-air while it folds its arms and
hands into his shoulders. DragonZord's chest plate would propel itself
forward as it's shoulders would close together to become the chest. Mastodon
would separate its body once again and form it's back and arms while the
DragonZord's mouth opens to become the face and head of the zord.
Sabertooth-Tiger and Triceritops bend upwards to become the feet and lower legs
and finally form the MegaDragonZord with its chest plate and tail as the Power
Staff--its ultimate weapon.
Or, the MegaZord (already formed) can meld with the DragonZord by becoming
its shoulders, helmet and arm weapons. This is the UltraZord. The ultimate
of morphing power is culminated by the forming of Titanus and the UltraZord.
Titanus is a brontosaurus-like carrier Zord that is armed with several
high-potency cannons. Together, with the UltraZord, no monster is able to
escape the powerful blast of the UltraMegaZord.
Dragonceasar is the name of thinking robot in ZYURANGER renamed DragonZord.
Additionally, King Bracchia is Titanus' name in ZYURANGER.
Second Season
Since the arrival of Lord Zedd, the rangers needed more powerful Zords to
defeat his reign of more powerful monsters usually created from inanimate
objects. Even though the dinosaur power is still the driving power of the
morphing grid, the actual machines themselves were losing power. They were
replaced by the ThunderZords. On one note, the rangers now must individually
call upon each zord by saying the name of their old zord and then the name of
their new zord. In each battle requiring zords, their old zords will always
meld into the new ones. Here is the arrangement for the second season
zords:
-
Black Ranger: Lion ThunderZord
-
Pink Ranger: Firebird ThunderZord
- Blue Ranger: Unicorn ThunderZord
-
Yellow Ranger: Griffin ThunderZord
-
Red Ranger: Red-Dragon ThunderZord
The one unique quality about ThunderZords is their ability to transform. The
Red-Dragon ThunderZord transforms to Warrior Mode (a gigantic robot).
The new ThunderZords can combine into two forms similarly to the original
DinoZords.
The Assault Force is where the Firebird, Lion, Unicorn and Griffin would form
as a flying carrier where Warrior Dragon ThunderZord would stand inside.
The MegaThunderZord is formed as follows:
Unicorn and Griffin ThunderZords easily fold into legs and feet, the Lion's
back comes up and becomes the chest and lower legs of the MegaThunderZord. The
Red Dragon ThunderZord in Warrior Mode steps inside of the lowerlegs; the rest
of the Lion ThunderZord becomes the MegaZord's shoulder armor and helmet.
And the FireBird would form as it's waist as a metal sheath with a sword
inside appears on its left hip. The sword inside is its ultimate weapon.
With the coming of the White Ranger, we were also presented with a new Zord.
The White TigerZord, controlled by the talking Saber, Sabba, is like the Red-
Dragon ThunderZord in the fact that TigerZord can transform into a gigantic
robot warrior. In warrior mode, TigerZord is armed with thunder bolts stored
in the cockpit and are fired through the mouth of the Tiger in the Zord's
chest. When things get too rough for the TigerZord, Firebird, Unicorn, Griffin
and Lion can come together as follows:
- TigerZord: Head, Chest, Arms, Upper Legs.
- Griffin: Left Leg and Foot.
- Unicorn: Legs and Feet.
- Firebird: Right Arm Sword and Secret Weapon.
- Lion: Shoulders.
This is the MegaTigerThunderZord. In the event that even that giant is unable
to stop Lord Zedd's relentless struggle for power, Zordon had the Morphing Grid
genetically transform a turtle into Tor the ShuttleZord. Its primary purpose
is protection. Lord Zedd has resurrected his massive intergalactic war zord,
Serpentara, and whenever it is called to earth, Tor is the Zord's only
protection. The combination of all of the zords potentially produces the most
powerful force against monsters even conceivable; the UltraThunderZord.
NOTE: Lion ThunderZord is dark green because in DaiRanger (the original
series featuring the footage used in the zord sequences), there is no Black
Ranger but a Green Ranger and the White Ranger is a sixth addition to the team
later in the Dairanger series similar to the Green Ranger (Dragonranger) in
ZyuRanger.
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie
Due to the unhatching of Ivan Ooze, the morphing grid was overloaded and
destroyed at the command center. Therefore, the rangers lost their powers.
After traveling to the planet Phaedos and meeting a bikini-clad warrior by the
name of Dulcea, they learned the art of Ninjetti and recovered their powers
through the gaining of new zords. The animal zords are distributed as follows:
- Black Ranger: Ninja Frog Zord (Electric Tongue Whip)
-
Blue Ranger: Ninja Wolf Zord (Penetrating Bite)
-
Pink Ranger: Ninja Crane Zord (Fast and Aggressive)
-
Yellow Ranger: Ninja Bear Zord (Strong and sturdy)
- Red Ranger: Ninja Ape Zord (Agile and Acrobatic)
-
White Ranger: Ninja Falcon Zord (Houses missiles in wings)
Like the prior Mega zords, these have either two ways of coming together. The
Ape and Wolf compress and unfold in to its right and left arms respectively.
The Crane Zord forms the head, the bear compresses into the torso and the Frog
is its legs to form the Ninja MegaZord.
The MegaFalconZord Zord is the NinjaMegaZord with a compressed FalconZord
attached to its back enabling it to fly.
These are all of the zords used to date. The Zord footage for the third season
of Power Rangers will come from the 1994-95 Japanese series Ninja Sentai
Kakurangers seeing as how their fightings machines match perfectly with the
movie's Zord arrangement.
Third Season
Because Rito destroyed the ThunderZords with clearly no option for repair, the
Rangers traveled to a distant planet to obtain new NinjaZord powers from
Ninjor.
Here is the Zord arangement for the time being:
-
Black Ranger: Ninja Frog Zord -- Feet Of Mega NinjaZord
-
Blue Ranger: Ninja Wolf Zord -- Left Arm of Mega NinjaZord
-
Pink Ranger: Ninja Crane Zord -- Head of Ninja MegaZord
-
Yellow Ranger: Ninja Bear Zord -- Torso of Mega NinjaZord
-
Red Ranger: Ninja Ape Zord -- Right Arm of Mega NinjaZord
- White Ranger: Ninja Falcon Zord -- Optional wings to Mega NinjaZord
The final result is the great Ninja MegaZord!
In Kakuranger, the Crane is in actuality the white Kakuranger's Robot. And
since there is no Pink KakuRanger, the writers had to make the Falcon (which is
just a robot with a mind of its own) the US White Ranger's Zord and make the
Crane be Pink Ranger's.
Shogun Zords
Originally releaved as the Dormat Zords to the Rangers by Rita through an
ultimated for them to destroy their own City, Billy deciphered a way to free
the Zords and use them, too, against the forces of Evil upon the moon. This
new, even more powerful massave battle team forms the Shogun MegaZord.
6.5 Rita's Magic Wand
Rita's magic wand is the culmination of her awesome evil powers. Its
abilities are almost limitless in imagination, however, is commonly used to
make her monster for the day grow to attempt to overpower the rangers. Since
her marriage to Zedd, it's become virtually useless (but only to make Rita look
recognizable) as Zedd's Z-Staff (which works just like Rita's staff) has taken
on the powers that her scepter used to have (see section 6.7).
Now, that is has been restored, it is used with Zedd's staff to make monsters
grow.
6.6 Finster's Monster-matic
When Rita needs a monster to try their hand at trying to dispose of the Power
Rangers, she calls on Finster to create out of space-clay the putties and
monsters. This machine is in Finster's workstation which is basically a
conveyor belt, an oven-like machine and an array of tubes and machinery and out
comes our clawing monster of the day with their own special powers, and
weakness.
As a prelude to the main event, Finster's Putties are send down to tire,
weaken, distract or merely fight the Power Rangers (as Jason mentioned, without
going into morphing action). On rare occasions, a certain group of putties
will be found fighting the rangers, while another may be found carrying out an
evil plan (i.e., putting a spell over something or someone or a simple
kidnapping). The following are a list of putty:
- Ordinary Putties.
- Rock Putties. They have a rock-like body-armor making them extra dark.
- Putties with Swords instead of a right hands.
- Putties with Punching Balls instead of right hands.
- Super Putties. Nearly indestructable.
- Morphing Putties (Seen in: "No Clowning Around," "A Bad
Reflection on You." and "Mighty Morphin' Mutants").
- Football Putties. Super strong and heavily built.
- Z-Putties. Destruction only by the contact with the "Z" on
their chest. Introduced in "The Mutiny" by Lord Zedd.
More have been rumored to exist, however, these are the only types
available. Putties are alien soldiers with the same evil faces and same style
maneuvers. Though they cannot speak, have no personality, they are highly
skilled in the martial arts and mindlessly hop around.
6.7 Lord Zedd's "Z"-Staff
Lord Zedd's staff, a magic serpent, is his equivalent of Rita's staff. Except
for the monster-growing element. (For that, Zedd uses a magic grenade that he
sends to the monster to self-induce growing.) For the most part, Zedd uses his
staff to convert any 3-dimensional object on Earth (usually possessed by a
Power Ranger) into a mutated monster, or to put an evil spell over something
(e.g., "Rocky Just Wants to Have Fun").
In the third season, he uses his staff to combine with Rita's to make their new
monsters grow.
6.8 BattleBikes
In "Calamity Kimberly," you might have breifly seen in a few frames
of ZYURANGER footage in the second battle that episode colored motor cycles
that had heads shaped like their DinoZords and helmets. These were also a good
marketing strategy that Bandai used to market the Rangers before Power Rangers
even premeired.
Because in that original Zyuranger television series, the battle-team mainly
rode those vehicles in their street clothes (which were just robes which they
wore over their suits they always wear, empowered by their coins once they go
into action). Because there is no way to explain the robes, Saban chose to
excise the footage containing battle-bike scenes entirely.
In the third season episode entitled "Follow that Cab," Zordon
revealed the powerful new Shark Cycles which heads were shaped like various
species of sharks. So far, they have exhibited no special powers or weapons.
6.9 Tenga Warriors
In the third season, these over-grown crows were somehow ressurected from the
much ignored movie plot and sent after the Rangers replacing the putties.
Whenever this happens, the rangers invoke their ninja costumes to fight them.
Interestingly enough, they give no special powers or grant no special
protection, unlike morphing does; but, does provide a convenient excuse for
the hero actors to never do their own stunts.
