Catherine Sutherland moved from Sydney, Australia, to Los Angeles, California, this year...and she had a megazord help her move. Catherine is the newest Power Ranger. Her favorite cereal is granola, her favorite dessert is cookies-and-cream ice cream, and her favorite cartoon is X-Men. If you want to know more about Catherine, the actress, or Katherine, the Power Ranger, read on.... TK: Was the Power Ranger audition tough? CS: There were about four hundred girls there. When I found out I had to do a martial arts routine, I kind of freaked. I'd only had about three months' martial arts training, but I've been dancing since I was about four. I rang a friend and he talked me through a routine. I managed to wing it pretty well. TK: What's your schedule like? CS: We work pretty much every day. About 12-14 hours a day. We start at 5:30 A.M. But I don't really think of it as work. It's been a lot of fun for me. TK: How did you like being evil? CS: It was fun. I miss it a little bit. When I became good I couldn't do anything wrong. But there's still a chance of my getting put under Zedd's power again. TK: How do you get along with the other Power Rangers? CS: We all get along great. Sometimes the girls gang up on the boys. TK: So, you play pranks on each other? CS: They stole my couch and stuff from my room and put it in their room. But I got it back. Then they put my couch in the command center. Very funny. TK: What's the best thing about the Power Rangers? CS: They teach teamwork, self-esteem, and being positive. TK: Did you ever think you'd see a doll of yourself on the shelves? CS: It's kind of odd, but it's exciting. Who wouldn't want a doll of themselves? TK: What's Australia like? Have you seen kangaroos? CS: Oh, yeah. In the country they're all over the place. You have to be careful, because they get stunned by headlights and can cause traffic accidents. TK: What do you like to read? CS: I like mysteries and science fiction. I saw the TV version of the Goosebumps book The Haunted Mask; that was good. It was kind of scary though, wasn't it? I guess I'm a baby. TK: If you were a mood ring, what color would you be? CS: I guess I'd better say pink, right? TK: Tell us about upcoming episodes where you loose all your powers and meet the Alien Rangers? CS: Rita's dad, Master Vile, zaps us of our powers and turns us into children. Zordon has to call on the Alien Rangers to help the Young Rangers protect the earth. TK: Do the kids save the world? CS: You'll have to wait and see! Will the kids save the world? Watch the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers weekdays and Saturdays to find out! ************************************************************************** **** CALLING ALL MIGHTY MORPHINS by VToys@aol.com PANGEA Toy Network IS your one-stop, cyber hotspot for ToyTainment! Now it's time to live it...on the Angel Grove Journey. Ever wondered what Angel Grove, California looked like? Well, you can see for yourself, this summer. We'll visit two of the most famous amusement parks: Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia (Across from Saban Studios) and Disneyland in Anaheim. We'll also go searching for elusive MMPR merchandise in the streets of Hollywood and to keep the pattern, we'll eat at Planet Hollywood. And, for dinner, what could be better than the entertaining Medieval Times? We'll also see many of the famous places that "Power Rangers" films such as Angel Grove Park and Angel Grove High. And, we'll get to see what Saban Entertainment and Saban Studios looks like (hopefully, from the inside). And, if you liked "Attack of the 60' Bulk", you'll love going to "SPLASH CITY" a.k.a. Raging Waters. That's right, we'll get to journey through the same water park that the Rangers did when fighting Brat Boy. And, when we're not traveling throughout "Angel Grove", we'll be living the "Fun & Games" column with Power Ranger impersonations, skits, and rock adventures. Plus, we'll be filming the trip and turning into our very own "Power Ranger" episode. After the trip, I will mail you all a copy of our very own Power Ranger episode. All this fun and more...as a thank you for being a Power Ranger fan. We'll show the world that Rocky isn't the only one who just wants to have fun! *Everyone* is invited. Take some friends...bring some relatives. And, for anyone who works for the show, you're welcome, too! If you're interested in taking the Angel Grove Journey (or TAG-J for short), e-mail me at MAXMOUZE@aol.com. All you need to do is be in Southern California this summer and get ready to meet a bunch of other MMPR fans and have a *very* fun time. All you need to do is reply to this message and I will keep you updated on the trip and supply some tips on how to save money and I'll tell you about some of the surprises that I'm planning. If you can be in Southern California, ask me for more details. The trip is either in late June or early July, so that the amusement parks won't be so crowded. I'm hoping this will also be convenient. The trip will be four or five days (To be discovered later). Bearing in mind that some of you have to work, we'll save the big stuff for the weekends. So, get ready to have a morphinomenal time on the Angel Grove Journey...the fun is on next summer! ************************************************************************** **** [funny name here] JOKE COLUMN by Dave Bryan (bryand@cadvision.com) Finally the last of the Hamlets. No more wherefore's, thou'rt's, or woodcocks. I'm free! Free, I tell you! Oh, excuse me. I just might do another of these in a similar style, but perhaps something a little simpler than Shakespeare. Feel free to send suggestions to bryand@cadvision.com. Remember: [] were there, {} were added. HORATIO: Now cracks a noble heart. Good night sweet prince: And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest! Why does the drum come hither? {Rocky gives Adam a few nudges to see if he is dead} Rocky: Let's see... Tommy's gone, Kim's gone, now Adam. Gee, by the end of the day, I could have all the zords! [March within] [Enter FORTINBRAS, the English Ambassadors, and others] {FORTINBRAS is Tommy wearing a fake mustache} Rocky {to Tommy}: Aren't you dead? Tommy: Somebody had to play the part. PRINCE FORTINBRAS: Where is this sight? Tommy: Show me the dead people, man. HORATIO: What is it ye would see? If aught of woe or wonder, cease your search. Rocky: Hey, we got everything here. Things falling on people, death, booze... hm, sounds like those parties my mom always told me to stay away from. PRINCE FORTINBRAS: This quarry cries on havoc. O proud death, What feast is toward in thine eternal cell, That thou so many princes at a shot So bloodily hast struck? Tommy: Pudgy Pig was more normal than this whole episode. First Ambassador: The sight is dismal; And our affairs from England come too late: The ears are senseless that should give us hearing, To tell him his commandment is fulfill'd, That Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are dead: Where should we have our thanks? Some Extra: {Lips do not move, nor does anything else} Hm, dead people. {The extra falls down. It can clearly be seen that he is a mannequin.} Tommy: Stupid low budget. HORATIO Not from his mouth, Had it the ability of life to thank you: He never gave commandment for their death. But since, so jump upon this bloody question, You from the Polack wars, and you from England, Are here arrived give order that these bodies High on a stage be placed to the view; And let me speak to the yet unknowing world How these things came about: so shall you hear Of carnal, bloody, and unnatural acts, Of accidental judgments, casual slaughters, Of deaths put on by cunning and forced cause, And, in this upshot, purposes mistook Fall'n on the inventors' reads: all this can I Truly deliver. Rocky: People will remember this like they remembered the sixties: small, sudden memories of very strange things. PRINCE FORTINBRAS: Let us haste to hear it, And call the noblest to the audience. For me, with sorrow I embrace my fortune: I have some rights of memory in this kingdom, Which now to claim my vantage doth invite me. Tommy: Oooh! Money and power too! Cool. {Someone clears their throat} Tommy: Oh, alright! Kids, money and power are both bad. HORATIO: Of that I shall have also cause to speak, And from his mouth whose voice will draw on more; But let this same be presently perform'd, Even while men's minds are wild; lest more mischance On plots and errors, happen. Rocky: Let's hope that no one has the bad sense to write another one... Our Distinguished Writer: Too late. PRINCE FORTINBRAS: Let four captains Bear Hamlet, like a soldier, to the stage; For he was likely, had he been put on, To have proved most royally: and, for his passage, The soldiers' music and the rites of war Speak loudly for him. Take up the bodies: such a sight as this Becomes the field, but here shows much amiss. Go, bid the soldiers shoot. Tommy: Get these dead people out of here, they're started to smell bad. {pause} Tommy: Oh! Kids, if you ever smell something bad, make sure to clean it up right away, just like us! [A dead march. Exeunt, bearing off the dead bodies; after which a peal of ordnance is shot off] {Alpha 5 walks in while others clean up/off various objects} Alpha: I know I haven't been in the rest of this production, but Dave said he just had to end the show with me. I don't know what he expects... {Alpha explodes in a mass of gears and circuits. Heavy applause} Our Distinguished Writer: I've been waiting to do that for a long time. Right now I'm hot and I'm sweaty and I feel like I'm going to die...that's right. I just worked out with The Mighty Morphin Karate Club video: The White Ranger Kata. "The White Ranger Kata" is the second MMPR karate video. The first one was called "The Green Ranger Kata" and came out around October 1994. The first one only ran for 40 minutes and the second one runs for 50. But, believe me, it seems a lot longer... Obviously, in the karate video, Jason David Frank teaches you (and, a class of martial art students) karate. After a vulgar warm-up of stretches, Jason David teaches you everything from chicken kicks to outward blocks. Basically, Jason David shows you the move, and then breaks it down into steps so you can learn it. After showing the steps slowly, he does the steps with his whole class, and after a few times, the class and you do it in one motion. If you are healthy and have some karate knowledge before you begin, the video is fairly simple and very helpful. Jason David is successful in teaching karate easily and strongly. Throughout the video, Jason David flashes back to when he was a kid (And, as if we didn't have enough of young Tommy, he's in the karate video!). During his flashbacks, his younger self learns the "Secret Code of the Arts", including brotherhood, self-respect, discipline, and cooperation. Young Jason's sensei teaches him the tips and also teaches the viewer as well. Reinforcing these moves with short skits really help it stick in your mind. The only mistake is that the same kids that Adult Jason is teaching in the karate class are in his flashbacks. "The White Ranger Kata" also begins with previews of new Ranger merchandise, including the Bulk and Skull collection and the 3rd season videos. At the end is a MMPR PSA...the one with the Litter Police and the "What can I do?" kid. I love this one because the kids in this PSA are actually...(gasp)...good actors. "The White Ranger Kata" also includes a special White Ranger music video, which shows Jason David performing martial arts to such songs as "Alive" and "White Ranger Tiger Power". Also, "The White Ranger Kata" supplies safety tips included in a flap between the box. Adult supervision is required. Not all karate exercises are appropriate for every child. Observe all warnings and instructions on videotape. The tape is also recommended for families with kids ages 6 and up. Here's something I bet you didn't know: "The White Ranger Kata" is an award- winning video. It was a winner of the Film Advisory Board Award of Excellence and was approved by the Martial Arts Society. Looks like it's one of the best. However, it's available *only* on home video so you won't have to feel guilty for buying something you have on tape. Anyway, "MMPRKC: The White Ranger Kata" is an excellent video and I think if you're interested in karate but haven't gotten around to beginning (or, want to strengthen your skills), this is where to start. Jason David is an excellent teacher and really teaches you about karate and it's background in fifty minutes! Now, *that's* talent!!! :-) ************************************************************************** **** MUSIC BOX by Jennifer Harmer (sthj@maristb.marist.edu) "Kung Fu Dancing" (Fun Tomas featuring Carl Douglas) Whoa...
