The Origin of the Sun

Astronomers believe that the Sun began as a very large cloud of gas millions of times larger than its current size. As gravity began compressing the gas, the Sun’s temperature began to rise. When the core got hot enough, the contraction stopped, and the Sun began to emit the steady light and heat that we see and feel. The Sun has been in this stage for about .5 billion years!
